The Hospital:

We are a large multi-disciplinary veterinary referral hospital with an excellent reputation for providing the highest level of quality health care service to our patients. We have a wide range of clinical services including internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, radiology, exotics, emergency and critical care, anaesthesia and a 24-hour emergency service.

The Position:

At SASH we have an expert team who are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. The Surgery department are looking for someone to provide surgery specific support, outstanding nursing care to our patients and to facilitate the smooth running of the services.

Responsibilities include providing excellent and efficient surgical assistance to the specialists and emergency veterinarians who are providing the best possible veterinary care to all surgical patients at SASH.

You will also be required to:

  • Perform and administer anaesthesia
  •  Prepare surgical instruments, radiography, ultrasound endoscopy, electrocardiographic and laparoscopic equipment
  • Handle, clean, pack and store surgical instruments
  • Prepare and support electrodiagnostics machine for use.
  • Provide pathology support
  • Deliver exceptional patient and client care
  • Provide medical and surgical nursing to the Neurology service
  • Liaise with other teams to ensure the smooth running of the surgery and neurology services

This is a full time position and you must be available to work Monday – Friday and provide weekend cover as required.

Key skills for this role include:

  • Previous experience working as a surgery or neurology nurse (desirable)
  • Passionate about providing exceptional patient care
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate outstanding work ethic
  • Ability to follow directions and work in an extremely busy environment
  • Problem solving and decision making skills
  • Commitment to the culture and values of SASH

To be successful in this position you will ideally have:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, or equivalent
  • Diploma of Nursing Surgical (desired)
