We are looking for an Associate Veterinary Surgeon to fit in with our Vet team.  You would be expected to share in the consulting and surgical work as evenly as possible. We work a four-day week. A normal roster includes 2 mornings on surgery and 2 mornings and 4 afternoons consulting. We encourage special interests, be that medical, surgical, dental, imaging, oncology etc.

We don’t mind how much experience or skill level anyone has; we are more interested in their attitude to teamwork and learning.

We are offering a salary range of $65 000 – 90 000, depending on experience. This role is flexible enough to suit a newly qualified colleague or someone with experience who wants to work at a high level.  You also receive generous remuneration for after-hours call-outs, a CPD allowance as a percentage of your salary (>$2600/year) and 1 paid week of CPD (as appropriate), Super guarantee provisions, and all standard leave entitlements.

You need to be registerable with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of WA to work here.

We provide our own after-hours service. This involves 1 weekend on call in 4, and 1 weeknight each week. We work a 4-day week, and Saturday 8.00 am-1.00 pm, when on call. On-call is not onerous, as we average only 10-12 call outs per month. It is often these calls which are the most interesting medical and/or surgical cases. We get to see cases that ‘Big City’ practices miss out on.

Working a standard weekly roster means you would have a consistent day off each week and the same night on call each week. This helps us all plan our lives.

Busselton Vet Hospital moved into a new purpose-built hospital in December 2009, and we achieved ASAV accreditation in 2011.  Our philosophy is to provide world-class veterinary care in our regional city, working to improve the lives of our patients and their bond with their owners without them having to travel to the Big City for treatment, as much as possible.

We are a team of 4 Veterinary Surgeons, 6 fully qualified Nurses, 2 trainee nurses, 3 reception staff and a practice manager, and though we all have different roles, we work together really well, treating patients, talking to our clients and having fun while we do it.

Everyone has a part to play in the successful treatment of our patients whether that is just a ‘simple’ vaccination or a TPLO surgery to correct a cruciate injury. Our nursing staff are incredibly dedicated and make our job as Vets so much easier. Our reception staff can be completely relied upon to collect and pass on messages from clients when appropriate and be thoughtful in managing workloads. Kylie, our practice manager, is incredible and fiercely loyal and caring to the team.

We love to continually learn and explore new ways of improving our knowledge and service. Nigel, one of our Associate Vets, has been very keen on learning more about ultrasound as he sees the benefit for our patients with that modality. He has investigated options, had U/S machines loaned to us for trial and with his recommendation, we have a new Mindray M8!  That is what we love to do. Encourage passion and facilitate improvement in ourselves and our practice.

We live and work in a beautiful regional area of WA, close enough to Perth for day trips, but far enough to be quieter and more relaxed.  Busselton is the ‘Events Capital’ of WA, with many sporting and cultural events that happen throughout the year. Eg The Jetty Swim, Cinefest Oz, Ironman WA, Gourmet Escape, Busselton Fringe etc.

We have a lovely temperate climate, so we don’t get as stinking hot as Perth does in summer, and the winters are mild, turning the surrounding countryside into a lush green. There are many, many wineries, restaurants, cafes, beaches, caves and forests to explore.

This is a very family-friendly town, with a choice of government and private primary and secondary schools, along with childcare places.  We have some great shopping opportunities with new shops being developed.  The city council is very keen on beautifying and enhancing our city.
