The University of Adelaide Veterinary Health Centre provides state-of-the-art primary practice veterinary clinical and referral care services to the community with the latest technology, equipment and highest professional standards.
An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Veterinary Clinician to join the dedicated team at the University of Adelaide’s Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC). Working through a 24/7 roster, the team provides high quality emergency and critical care services for a dynamic and growing caseload of small animal patients in an accredited hospital. The team enjoys strong support from a lively group of experienced academic clinicians and pathologists, plus well-trained, hard-working Nurses and client services personnel, and technical services staff.
By involving highly motivated final year students in clinical case management and providing students with additional learning opportunities where appropriate and demonstrating the highest standard of clinical and professional behaviour, the role provides the opportunity to make an important contribution to the clinical education of the next generation of Veterinarians.
You will be an enthusiastic, team-oriented Veterinarian with a strong drive to deliver the highest standards of clinical service and care. You will have proven experience in first opinion and emergency care, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills and look forward to mentoring the next generation of Veterinarians by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.
The Veterinary Health Centre (VHC) is the University of Adelaide’s clinical teaching facility for veterinary students and offers the general public and referring veterinarians a range of first opinion, ambulatory and specialist veterinary services across all animal species. The Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC), a unit of the VHC, is a leading-edge general practice, emergency and referral care veterinary hospital offering advanced technology, equipment and professional services to treat small companion and native animals of all species. The CAHC provides a clinical training environment for final year veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff.
The CAHC is situated on the University’s picturesque Roseworthy Campus, approximately 9km from the township of Gawler and on the doorstep of the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region. With the local schools, restaurants and amenities of Gawler, a relaxed lifestyle and affordable housing, but only an hour from the CBD of Adelaide, the location offers the best of both worlds.
Further study and Continuing Professional Development activities are encouraged and supported with time off and up to $3,000 per annum available towards approved activities.
To be successful you will need:
- Veterinary qualification with eligibility to be registered as a veterinarian in South Australia.
- Proven veterinary experience in first opinion and emergency care, demonstrated ability to triage.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and team members.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for assisting, teaching or mentoring others.
- Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence.
