- If you are a Veterinarian with an interest in dentistry along with a side of anaesthesia, this Internship represents an exciting and unique opportunity for you to develop skills in these areas.
We are a group of people, passionate about animals, working for a proudly Australian owned company, where the drive to work every day comes from a calling, a calling to help those who can’t help themselves, the magnificent animals of our wonderful planet earth.
The Adelaide Animal Emergency and Referral Centre (AAERC), the leading spec/ER in Adelaide, is offering an internship in the referral dental department designed to prepare a veterinarian for high-quality service in practice or to progress into advanced training. The primary purpose of an internship is to provide a sound educational program for the intern.
The successful applicant would need to be prepared to undertake a 2-year commitment to working in the dentistry department in close association with the Resident in veterinary dentistry. They will play a pivotal role in progressing the department, with anaesthesia and dentistry being the key areas of focus.
The position is full-time with a four day working week. You will be working alongside highly skilled Nurses and a Dental Resident. The case load is extremely varied and ranges from orthodontics to prosthodontics to both periodontal and oromaxillofacial surgery.
Previous training in dentistry is not specifically required but may be advantageous. A keen eye for detail, an ability to work independently as well as part of a close-knit team, self-motivation and good communication skills are all integral to success in this area.
The successful applicant will hold, or be able to hold, full registration in the state of South Australia as well as a radiation licence. They will have been in general practice for at least 2 years prior to undertaking the role.
You can expect to progress your dental knowledge to a level where you can confidently apply the knowledge to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oral cavity at a high level. You will have access to an extensive range of equipment including a wide range of dental instruments, intraoral radiography, cone beam tomography, piezoelectric surgical instruments, extensive anaesthetic management and monitoring equipment.
The dental department is one of the units that make up the Adelaide Animal Emergency and Referral Centre. You will be part of a larger team that, besides dentistry, also counts surgery, cardiology, imaging ER and medicine amongst its departments. This wide range of disciplines gives you a broader learning opportunity and the chance to participate in a collegiate atmosphere.
Patient care is pivotal to our success and on-going education of our professionals is key to achieving this.
